Why Bernedoodles are the best.

With their heart warming eyes and happy, goofy personality, the Bernedoodle may be the perfect dog that you’ve been looking for.

The Bernedoodle is a mixed breed from a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Lets learn a little bit about the Bernedoodles heritage before we talk about the Bernedoodle itself. The Bernese Mountain Dog is orginally from Bern, Switzerland and the Swiss Alps. They were used to pull milk carts amongst other tasks for their owners. They are a very loving and friendly dog making them a great candidate for the singles or families.

We’ve all heard of the Poodle unless you have literally been living under a rock. The Poodle is a breed of water dog, meaning they were used for hunting or varies working activities. Poodles are highly desirable because of their non-shedding coat. They are great with families but can become annoying with barking if not trained correctly at a young age. The poodle has many desirable characteristics, one of them being the dog’s trainability.

So what do you get when you combine the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle? You get the Bernedoodle! The Bernedoodle is a very sweet, loving, goofy, intelligent dog with the highly desirable non-shedding trait. The Bernedoodles seem to derive the most admirable traits from both parents making them one of the best Doodle breeds. They can come in many different colors but the most desired color is the tri-color like their parent - the Bernese. This coloring is hard to breed for making this look of the Bernedoodle more expensive for those shopping for a tri-color Bernedoodle. A Bernedoodle can typically come in four different sizes. Standard (45-70lbs), Mini (25 to 40lbs), Micro (15 to 25lbs) Toy (8 to 12lbs). Every breeder seems to have different size ranges for their puppies so be sure to ask the estimated weight of the puppy you’re looking at. Bernedoodles can have more Poodle and less Bernese or vice versa. What does this mean? This means you could by a puppy that is 50% Bernese Mountain Dog and 50% Poodle (F1) or you can buy a puppy that is 25% Bernese and 75% Poodle (F1b), usually making them smaller and more curly. I will write a blog post that is more in depth on the generations of a Doodle so be sure to watch for that post if your confused with Doodle Generation Language.

In conclusion you are most definitely missing out if you don’t have a Bernedoodle. Their personality, non-shedding coat and great health makes them one of the best Doodles to have.
